Grainne O'Farrelly, Managing Director in Kroll's Financial Services Compliance and Regulation practice, will host a panel discussion comprising compliance professionals and independent directors from the Irish Fund Directors Association and Irish MiFID Industry Association.The CBI’s focus on governance responsibilities, the IAF and the expectations of the INED and the compliance professional will be tabled in what is sure to be an interesting discussion.

Gráinne O'Farrelly

Gráinne joined Kroll in 2019 and is the Managing Director of its Financial Services Compliance and Regulation Practice in Dublin.


Gráinne began her career in Investors Bank & Trust in Dublin/Boston and joined Grant Thornton in 2000 where she headed up the listing team as a director until 2010. From 2011 – 2019, Gráinne oversaw a large multi-functional team in the regulation department of Euronext Dublin (formerly the Irish Stock Exchange).


In Kroll, Gráinne and her team work with regulated financial services clients to assist in the creation and maintenance of governance, risk, compliance and AML frameworks, and help clients manage and mitigate regulatory risk using their deep experience as practitioners. The team also operate an AML practice for clients providing MLRO’s and working to assess, monitor, and remediate financial crime risk.

Gráinne has a broad knowledge of the international, EU and national regulatory frameworks, with a particular focus on AML/CTF.  She is a member of Women in ETF’s (exchange-traded funds) Mentoring Group, an active member of the Compliance Institute in Ireland and has lectured on investment funds in the Law Society of Ireland.

Samantha McConnell

Samantha has over 25 years’ experience in the investment and pensions industry covering administration, investment services, change and integration management. She now acts as a full time independent, non-executive director (INED) on a wide range of Boards including fund, MIFID, AIFIM and SuperManco entities both in Ireland and Europe. She is the chair of a number of entities including a Super Manco and a MIFID entity. Samantha was previously a non-executive director for CFA Ireland and was also executive director of Willis Human Capital & Benefits (Willis Towers Watson’s MIFID regulated entity in Ireland). Samantha holds a first class honours degree in commerce from University College Dublin and graduated first in Ireland in the ACCA exams. She is a CFA Charter holder, a holder of the Institute of Directors Diploma in Company Direction where she graduated first in UK & Ireland and was awarded the Graduate of Merit award from the Institute of Directors as well as the LIA’s Pension Trustee Practitioner Gold Medal.

John Gilsenan

John Gilsenan is Head of Compliance of Quilter Cheviot Europe  since its establishment as a separate entity of Quilter plc in 2019.

John has over 40 years’ experience in financial services, mainly with the Porsche Group involved in corporate treasury, reinsurance, cash and asset management. He has more recently worked in senior Compliance positions in the Fund Service Provider, Investment Management and Insurance Intermediaries sectors.

John is a qualified Chartered Certified Accountant, a Chartered Tax Adviser and a Licentiate of the Compliance Officers of Ireland. He is also a Qualified Financial Adviser and a Commerce graduate of University College Dublin.

Elaine Duffy

Elaine is the PCF – 12 Head of Compliance for BNY Pershing in Ireland.  Elaine’s responsibilities include supporting and providing Compliance advice to the Board of Directors and the business to fulfil their regulatory obligations. Elaine works with the Board of Directors, management and employees to ensure they are in compliance with the rules and regulations of the appropriate regulatory bodies, primarily the Central Bank of Ireland and that company policies and procedures are being followed

Prior to joining BNY Pershing, Elaine worked in a number of Financial Institutions including Barclays Bank, Credit Suisse and Goodbody Stockbrokers in  various Compliance roles. Elaine has also worked in the Markets Supervision Department of Euronext Dublin. Elaine has an MSc Compliance and BSc Marketing and is a Qualified Financial Advisor. Elaine has also reviewed the textbooks for the Institute of Banking Professional Certificate in Stockbroking and Professional Certificate in Compliance examinations and co- chaired the IMIA’s Individual Accountability Framework Working Group.

Tony McPoland

Tony Mc Poland is an experienced financial services executive with twenty five years experience, primarily in the funds, asset management and investment banking sectors. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant with PWC, Mr Mc Poland worked for ICS Building Society and Goodbody Stockbrokers. He spent the last 15 years of his executive career with BW Bank Ireland plc, LBBW Bank Ireland plc and LBBW Asset Management Ireland plc, and served ten years on the Board of Directors with executive responsibility for Finance, Operations, Risk and IT.

He is a professional independent Director, and has been approved by the Central Bank of Ireland to hold PCF-2A, PCF-2B and PCF 3 roles as Director and Chair. He is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Ireland and a Chartered Director, and is a Faculty Member of the Corporate Governance Institute, where he lectures on the Duties of a Company Director. He holds a Bachelor of Business Studies degree from Trinity College, Dublin, and a Diploma in Professional Accounting from University College Dublin. He also completed the Advanced Management Programme in INSEAD.
